Worship Wednesday
This week, while I was reading my daily walk bible, a passage really spoke to me. I started the book of Luke this week, and in Ch 4, Jesus is tempted by Satan in the wilderness. This passage was so powerful for me because Jesus quotes scripture instead of arguing back (Luke 4:4, 8, 12). As a result, Satan cannot fight back. The words from scripture are irrefutable. I know many Christians memorize verses as a part of their ministry, but this is always something that terrified me. Sometimes church gives me the impression that in order to be a good follower, you are either good at speaking, or good at singing... and I'm not good at either! It can be frustrating to not have the confidence to speak to others and share the Word because it is so unnatural for me. I don't have a "knack" for this kind of thing. I don't tend to know the right things to say, or how to say it to mean the most.
What I learned from this passage is that having scripture memorized will give me confidence in talking about God with others. I don't need to think of the right words to say or how to say them. I can let His Word speak to those around me. The fact that Jesus can silence Satan with a few short quotes from scripture is truly awesome! Satan's first try is to tempt him to turn a stone to a loaf of break but Jesus tells Satan that "'Scriptures say People do not live by bread alone'", and without reply, he tries a different way to tempt Jesus. Each time, it is the same. Our goal is always to follow in the path that Jesus taught us to walk on this Earth. Memorizing scripture seems like the perfect next step for me!
For my first memory verse, I have chosen Provers 3:5-6. This verse is very powerful for me- as a perpetual planner, I need to remind myself to rely on the Lord's plan rather than my own plans for He has prepared a way for each of us if we let Him guide our hearts.
